BlackCat turns to ‘Munchkin’ to advance hacker operations – October 23rd
The BlackCat ransomware group has employed the use of a new tool, called Munchkin, making the Ransomware-as-a-Service (Raas) operation more attractive to potential affiliates. This is because Munchkin allows for the use of remote systems to deploy encryptors on network devices. After violating a device's security, the threat actors are able to install something called a VirtualBox, which enhances their ability to propagate a malicious payload across victim networks.
Hack costs Mixin Network $200M – September 26th
Dubbed the ‘biggest hack of the year’, the recent attack on Hong Kong-based digital wallet company, Mixin Network has cost the company $200 million worth of crypto assets. Network authorities have announced that deposits and withdrawals on the site will only recommence once all vulnerabilities have been confirmed and fixed.
Asia’s power grid target by threat actors – September 13th
A malicious malware attack targeting Asia's power grid has been reported. Called ShadowPad or PoisonPlug the malware allows for credential theft. Reports allege the malware to be the work of novel threat operation RedFly.
