‘World’s First CISO’ Steven Katz Passes Away

Steven Katz, an innovator in cybersecurity, becoming the first chief information security offer (CISO) for Citicorp in 1999, passed away on Saturday, December 2nd in a New York hospice.

Katz was most known for the Citicorp breach response, setting up innovative tactics in finding root causes, broader security posture, and remediation plans, tactics still used by CISOs today.

75% of Industry Professionals Experienced a Ransomware Attack in 2023

Claroty released a study revealing 75% of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) security professionals experienced ransomware attacks.

The Claroty study “The Global State of Industrial Cybersecurity 2023: New Technologies, Persistent Threats, and Maturing Defenses” interviewed 1,100 IT and OT security professionals in North America, APAC, LATAM, and EMEA. 

LockBit Keeps Role as Biggest Global Ransomware Threat in 2023

According to a report by ZeroFox, LockBit was involved in more than a quarter of global ransomware and digital extortion (R&DE) attacks in 2023.

The report found 30% of LockBit’s attacks target Europe and 25% in North America. Despite remaining the global leader in ransomware, ZeroFox notes there to be a downward trajectory in the number of LockBit’s attacks compared to 2022.
