EU Cybersecurity Drill Tests Readiness for 2024 Elections
In preparation for the 2024 elections, the European Parliament’s services, the European Commission, and the EU Agency for Cybersecurity conducted a cybersecurity exercise. The drill, held in the European Parliament, involved national and EU partners testing crisis plans and responses to potential cybersecurity incidents. Representatives from electoral and cybersecurity authorities participated, aiming to enhance their capacity to address cybersecurity issues and update protocols for securing election technology.
The exercise addressed risks such as information manipulation and cyber-attacks, crucial for safeguarding the integrity of the upcoming European Parliament election scheduled for June 6-9, 2024.
Australia Implements $382 Million Cybersecurity Overhaul in Response to Major Breaches
Australia unveils a comprehensive $382 million cybersecurity plan, responding to a surge in cyber attacks. The measures include cyber health checks for small businesses, increased law enforcement funding, mandatory reporting of ransomware attacks, and stricter cyber reporting rules for telecommunications firms.
The seven-year strategy aims to bolster national security amid rising cybercrime, with a focus on protecting small and medium-sized businesses. The initiative follows a year of significant data breaches affecting nearly half the population and disrupting critical infrastructure.
LockBit Expoits Citrix NetScaler Flaw
The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC), and the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Center (ASD’s ACSC) issued an advisory disclosing that a security flaw in the Citrix NetScaler application delivery control (ADC) and Gateway appliances are being exploited by ransomware gang, LockBit.
The Citrix NetScaler flaw is said to allow LockBit access to user credentials, data, and resources through the hijacking of legitimate user sessions.
