The Olympic games, which kick off in Paris towards the end of next month, are expected to attract over 15 million visitors to the French capital and generate around €11 billion. But there are also growing fears that the four-yearly global event will be the target of a tsunami of cybercrime and terrorism. “The Tokyo Games in 2021 suffered 450 million computer attacks. Paris expects eight times more!” says the networking giant Cisco, an official partner for Paris 2024.
The 'INC Ransom' ransomware group publicly threatened to release three terabytes of NHS Scotland sensitive patient and staff data, after publishing a smaller sample size proving the viability of the threat. NHS Dumfries and Galloway's efforts to prevent the attack from being repeated are underway in collaboration with Police Scotland and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).
Over 3,500 cybercriminals were arrested and $300M worth of assets were seized by Europol, the South Korean government, along with cooperation from law enforcement agencies from 34 countries on a large-scale sting operation labeled "HAECHI IV". The operation spanning from July to December 2023, targeted predominantly email, e-commerce, and investment cyber fraudsters.
