Iranian ‘Seedworm’ Targets African Telcos
Iran-backed cyberespionage group ‘Seedworm’ is targeting telecommunications companies from Egypt, Sudan, and Tanzania, according to security researchers at Symantec.
Based on investigations from Symantec, ‘Seedworm’ discreetly gains access to its victims’ systems and hides their malicious activity while using the SimpleHelp remote access and Venom Proxy to harvest sensitive information.
3,500 Cybercriminals Arrested by Law Enforcement
Over 3,500 cybercriminals were arrested and $300M worth of assets were seized by Europol, the South Korean government, along with cooperation from law enforcement agencies from 34 countries on a large-scale sting operation labeled “HAECHI IV”.
The operation spanning from July to December 2023, targeted predominantly email, e-commerce, and investment cyber fraudsters.
Okta Acquired Spera Security for an Estimated $100M
Okta announced the acquisition of Spera Security. Serpa Security previously secured funding worth $10M led by YL Ventures, with investments from serial entrepreneurs at companies like Google, ZScaler, Akamai, and Zendesk.
Okta credited the acquisition of Spera Security, to broaden the scope of Okta’s identity threat detection capabilities, with a focus on security posture and attack surface management. However undisclosed, some reports say the deal is valued at $100-$130M.
