US Adults Lose Over $10B to Fraud in 2023 – February 13th

Bugcrowd’s $102M Raised Funding Creates Cybersecurity’s Latest Unicorn

Bugcrowd raised $102M in a strategic growth financing round led by General Catalyst, bringing the cyber company’s valuation to over $1B. This makes Bugcrowd one of the over 60 cybersecurity unicorns in the world.

The latest funding round will be used for Bugcrowd’s global expansion, and to accelerate the development of their AI-powered platforms.

US Adults Lose Over $10B to Fraud in 2023

According to the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), US adults lost over $10B to cyber fraud incidents in 2023, led by investment scams.

Marking a historic rise, the rates of US fraud incidents rose by 14% compared to 2022. Leading fraud incidents consist of investment scams, e-commerce fraud, fake prize scams, and business and job opportunity scams.

‘Hunter-Killer’ Malware Tactic Sees Notable Rise

According to a Picus Security report, there is a notable rise in the ‘hunter-killer’ malware tactic, demonstrated when malware remains hidden until it strikes the victim systems.

Among the 600k malware samples reviewed by Picus, an average of 13 malicious activities per sample to the ATT@CK (hunter-killer) framework was mapped.
