US Cybersecurity Watchdog Under Government Scrutiny

Sen. Rand Paul has publicly commented on his disdain toward the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA)’s initiatives to censor social media content and the agency’s 50% budget increase.

The Senator has been a notorious critic of cyber policies, reportedly opposing 11 cyber bills. CISA is continuing to address these concerns but has denied the accusations and vows to continue building a safer cyber ecosystem in the U.S.

 

UK Purchase Scams Surge up to £580M

UK Finance has reported a significant increase in authorized push payment (APP) fraud in the first half of 2023.

APP fraud refers to threat actors practicing identity fraud to trick victims into sending money to bank accounts under their control.

 

VMware Warns Customers of Proof-of-Concept Exploit

VMware, a virtualization services provider, has announced to its customers the software’s Proof-of-Concept (PoC) exploit.

The PoC vulnerability is being labeled as a high-severity risk related to a case of authentication bypass, which could lead to remote code execution.

Criminal use of AI enters new and dangerous phase

Cybercriminals have just added what may be the most dangerous weapon yet to their arsenal of illegal software, a Dark Web version of legitimate artificial intelligence (AI) platforms. Tel Aviv-based network security company, Cato Networks, has uncovered an emerging criminal platform called Nytheon AI that it says is “a fully-fledged illicit AI platform”. While there have been other attempts to offer criminal versions of popular AI models, Nytheon AI is the first truly comprehensive multilingual offering. Threat actors can now use the platform to conduct a variety of attacks including tailored spear-phishing campaigns, deepfake documents, and polymorphic malware capable of constantly mutating its appearance.
