The UK Warns on AI-Generated Malware from Nation-States

According to the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), AI-generated malware built to avoid detection could be a serious threat inflicted by nation-state threat actors this year.

The NCSC further stated that based on their investigations, they believe nation-state groups hold repositories of malware large enough to effectively train an AI model to bolster ransomware attack capabilities.

 

EquiLend Cyberattack Shuts Down its Systems

EquiLend released a statement disclosing that a cyberattack is the reason behind its systems going offline and that it will take “several days” before their services are fully restored.

EquiLend, who is now working with cybersecurity firms and advisers are currently working together to investigate the attack and bring the systems back online.

 

Hewlett Packard Enterprise Emails Breached by Russian Hackers

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) disclosed that Russian hackers known as “Midnight Blizzard” breached the company’s Microsoft Office 365 email environment to steal sensitive corporate data.

On the report submitted to the SEC, HPE said they were notified of the breach on December 2023, and that the hackers were in their system since May 2023. HPE also disclosed that information on their cybersecurity practice, business segments, and other functions was stolen.
