China hacks US nuclear agency

The US Nuclear Security Administration, which is responsible for maintaining and designing the USA’s cache of nuclear weapons,  has been hacked  by China-based cybercriminal group Storm-2603. Other organizations including the U.S Education Department, Florida’s Department of Revenue, and the Rhode Island General Assembly were also breached by Storm-2603.

China’s Telecom Hack ‘Most Serious’ in US History

US Senator Mark Warner has called the Salt Typhoon hack, conducted by a group that has been linked to Chinese intelligence, “the most serious telecoms hack in our history.” In a recent interview with the NY Times, Warner also said that hackers were able to listen in on telephone calls and access text messages, emphasizing that “every major provider has been broken into.”

This follows hard on the FBI releasing a joint statement with the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), in which they announced that “China-affiliated actors have compromised networks at multiple telecommunications companies.”

Rise in Tax-Related Phishing Scams Detected – March 22nd

Microsoft’s Threat Intelligence arm issued a warning on the rise of new, sophisticated tax phishing scams that could lead to stolen personal and financial data.

These tax-related phishing scams are initiated by impersonating trusted employers, tax agencies, and payment processors. Victims click on a malicious attachment, which leads to a believable landing page designed to capture sensitive information.

Schneider Electric Confirms Data Breach from Ransomware Attack – January 31st

Schneider Electric announced that they were hit by a ransomware attack on January 17th, resulting in a data breach exposing their customer’s information. The ‘Cactus’ ransomware group claimed the ransomware attack.

Schneider has since informed the affected customers of the breach, which include Hilton, Pepsico, and Walmart. The attack also caused Schneider to shut down several division-specific systems.

Despite recent talk of a tech slowdown that reaches cyber, Allied Market Research reported that the market is poised to grow to $478.68B by 2030, with a 9.5% annual growth rate.
