Lee Enterprises Investigating Ransomware Claim, Data Leak Threat – March 3rd
Lee Enterprises is investigating a claim from the Qilin ransomware group, which alleges it stole 350GB of data from the newspaper chain’s network in an early February attack. According to SentinelOne researchers, Qilin has threatened to begin leaking data on March 5, though the specific ransom demand remains unknown. A Lee Enterprises spokesperson confirmed awareness of the claims but provided no further details on the investigation.
Samsung Customers in the UK Exposed by Data Breach – November 17th
Samsung notified its customers in the UK that a recent data breach potentially exposed customer data, stemming from a third-party business application vulnerability. Samsung UK further stated that the data affected only covers customers that purchased Samsung items in the UK online store, and ensured customers that the breach does not include passwords or financial data.
ALPHV/BlackCat Reports MeridianLink for Undisclosed Cyber Attack – November 16th
Ransomware gang, ALPHV/BlackCat has reported MeridianLink to the SEC, for not disclosing cyber attack. ALPHV/BlackCat informed the SEC that MeridianLink did not disclose details of the attack, which could potentially affect the data of the publicly traded company's thousands of financial organizations, banks, credit unions, and mortgage lenders. The lack of cyber compliance from MeridianLink breaks the SEC’s rule of disclosing cyber attacks within 4 days of the attack occurring to the agency.
Global AI summit mired in controversy
The UK-hosted Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety Summit due to take place on Wednesday and Thursday this week, attended by world leaders and AI experts, is set to become the focus of a widening global debate on the dangers of AI. Last Thursday, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak set out the agenda for the discussion, coming down heavily on the side of the AI doom-mongers, who once again are warning that AI poses an existential threat to humanity itself.
