Stoli Announces Bankruptcy after Ransomware

Vodka Manufacturing Group Stoli USA declares bankruptcy after a ransomware attack. In a filing on Nov 29, CEO Chris Caldwell states that the ransomware attack was one factor among several others that led them to the bankruptcy filing, including decades-long legal battles with the Russian government. 

Europol Takes Down MATRIX

Europol announces the takedown of MATRIX, an encrypted messaging service used by cybercriminals. The investigation was in conjunction with the French and Dutch police, with authorities monitoring messages from potential criminals for months before the takedown of the website. 

Warning on Chinese LIDAR Tech

Non-profit Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) released a paper warning the public of Chinese light detecting and radar (LIDAR) technology, of which US infrastructure is dangerously dependent. 

The report warns that although LIDAR can be beneficial for public safety, transportation, and utility systems, it can also “leaves its users vulnerable to espionage and sabotage, potentially enabling Beijing to access sensitive U.S. data or disrupt critical operations.”
