Jabber Messaging Service Wiretapping Discovered
A security researcher who goes by the name “ValdikSS” revealed traces of ‘wiretapping’ on the Russian XMPP-based instant messaging service Jabber, via servers hosted on Hetzner and Linode (a subsidiary of Akamai) in Germany.
The wiretapping attack stemmed from the vulnerability brought by the expiration of the messaging service’s MiTM certificates, which happened 6 months ago.
Global Illegal IPTV Network Ring Dismantled in Austria
The Austrian police arrested 20 people linked to an illegal IPTV network that decrypted copyright-protected broadcasts and redistributed them to thousands across the country while seizing $1.74 million from the group’s operations.
The piracy ring was allegedly comprised of 80 Turkish citizens, with its center of operations in Austria. The illegal IPTV network offered its services for only $50 per year to its customers.
