Attackers Increase Lateral Movement Speed by 35%
Crowdstrike reports that the average time for attackers to move laterally from initial access dropped to just 62 minutes in 2023, a 35% increase compared to 2022.
The Crowdstrike Global Threat Report 2023 also shows the tech, telecoms, and finance sectors recorded the highest shares of intrusions last year.
Ransomware Attacks Decline by 11% in 2023
IBM X-Force released a report, disclosing that ransomware attacks declined by 11.5% in 2023, compared to 2022.
IBM says the decline in ransomware attacks is largely due to the new cybercrime focus of infostealing tactics which rose by 32%. IBM X-Force’s report gathered data for the report based on 150 billion daily security events from 130 countries last year.
Iranian Groups Disguised as Hacktivists Online
A CrowdStrike report uncovers the covert Iranian cyber campaign, where Iranian state-backed advanced persistent threat groups (APT) disguise themselves as hacktivists online.
Dubbed “faketivists”, these Iranian APT groups are suspected to be behind disruptive Israeli-targeted attacks, and consistently spread misinformation all while selling a hacktivist persona.
