International Law Enforcement Seizes LockBit’s Website

U.S. and U.K. authorities announced the seizure of the LockBit ransomware gang’s extortion website.

The “Operation Cronos” campaign was led by the UK’s National Crime Agency, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Europol, in collaboration with a coalition of police agencies from 9 countries globally. However, LockBit posted messages on an encrypted messaging app saying its backup servers were unaffected. 

Advisory on the Complex North Korean Cyber Campaigns

The German Federal Intelligence Agency (BfV) released an advisory, warning of the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) behind the new string of North Korean-backed supply chain and social engineering attacks.

Based on examples from a 2022 supply chain attack on a maritime research and shipping tech center, and a 2023 Lazarus-led social engineering attack on crypto firms, the advisory goes through every aspect of how the attacks were conducted, by which threat actor, along with suggestions on how to address these threats

The Rise in Youth-Led Cybercrime in the UK

The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) unveiled that one in five children aged 10-16 in the UK engaged in illicit online activities that violate the Computer Misuse Act.

The NCA report was based on a survey that focused on unauthorized access to computer systems, cyberbullying, copyright infringement, and online gaming offenses. This raises the UK’s alarms on cybersecurity education.
