Google’s Improvements to Chrome’s ‘Safe Browsing’ Mode
Google announced major security-focused revamps to Chrome’s ‘Safe Browsing’ mode, which enables the service to work while checking against a server-side malware-site list in real-time.
The added safety feature to Google Chrome’s ‘Safe Browsing’ mode is a massive improvement compared to the browsing mode cross-checking against lists of malware-infected sites that were manually added every two hours.
UK Police Staffers Under Scrutiny for Crime Info Distribution on WhatsApp and Telegram
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) uncovered and reprimanded the Dover Harbour Board and Kent Police for distributing information on vehicular crimes on Telegram and WhatsApp.
According to the ICO, the distribution of sensitive criminal information via WhatsApp and Telegram breaches data protection laws in the UK. “At the time of the investigation, the Telegram group included 241 officers from multiple UK police forces and international law enforcement agencies,” the report states.
Behind APT28’s Phishing Campaign Pretending to be Government Agencies
According to an IBM X-Force report, Russian-linked ‘APT28’ is suspected to be behind the phishing campaign, luring victims to a malware-hosted fake document pretending to be from a government agency.
The phishing campaign labeled ‘ITG05’ is currently focused on Europe, the South Caucasus, Central Asia, and North and South America.
