‘Stayin’ Alive’ campaign targets Asian telecommunication services
A new malware campaign, called ‘Stayin’ Alive’, has been deployed by Chinese espionage group ToddyCat to target Asian telecommunication service providers. This campaign uses ‘disposable’ malware, to evade detection.
Areas targeted by the threat actors have included Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Vietnam.
Encryption-less ransomware attacks surge
Cybercriminals have continued to evolve their technology, with researchers having reported a surge in encryption-less attacks this year.
These attacks rely on psychological strategies to pressure victims to pay a ransom fee. Ransomware group BianLian, which has been in operation since 2022, is an example of a group using this technology.
Google responds to increase in malware-related money theft
Google has warned users of Android devices to take specific precautionary measures to prevent malware infection. This warning comes after a reported increase in malware aimed at stealing information and money.
Precautionary measures advised by the service provider include turning on Google Play Protect, updating software, and removing untrusted apps.
