EPA Issues Warning for US Drinking Water Systems
On Monday, May 20th, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a warning, urging water utility systems in the US to take action to prevent vulnerabilities.
The EPA says 70% of water systems inspected don’t fully comply with the Safe Drinking Water Act requirements, stating that some have “critical cyber vulnerabilities” such as default passwords that may be easily compromised.
MediSecure Suffers from Data Breach
Medisecure, an electronic prescription provider, announced that they had experienced a data breach, potentially placing millions of Australian patient data at risk.
The incident, already reported to the Australian National Cyber Security Coordinator, is still under investigation, stating that they are “working to build a picture of the size and nature of the data that MediSecure’s data breach has impacted.”
Global Cybercrime Cost Rose 12% Faster than Cyber Spending
Despite the recent uptick in cybersecurity funding, Stocklytics found that cybercrime costs soared by 972% since 2018.
This year, companies and organizations spent an estimated $183 billion on cybersecurity solutions, while cybercrime is estimated to inflict $9.2 trillion in damages.
