Critical Sectors Faced 13 Cyber Attacks per Second in 2023

A Forescout Research – Vedere Labs report disclosed that over 420 million attacks were recorded between January and December 2023 in the medical, power, communications, waste, manufacturing, and transportation equipment sectors, amounting to 13 attacks per second.

Forescout’s report “2023 Global Threat Roundup” states that despite the ongoing surge in cyber attacks, the cybersecurity landscape remains optimistic considering proceedingly enhanced visibility and proactive defense strategies in the affected sectors.

 

Cyber Attack Closes New Jersey School District

On January 28th, the Freehold Township School District announced they would temporarily be closed due to a ‘cybersecurity incident’.

The school officials are now working with third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate the cyber attack and aim to disclose more information on the attack further this week.

 

Dark Web Marketplace ‘Drug Kingpin’ Forfeits $150M in Cryptocurrency

Banmeet Singh, a key player behind the now-defunct Dark Web marketplaces; Silk Road, Hansa, and Alpha Bay who was detained in London since 2019 admitted his guilt and forfeited his $150M crypto fortune.

Singh reportedly started his operations in 2012, distributing an array of drugs through the Dark Web across the United States, Canada, Europe, and the Caribbean.
