BHI Energy comes clean about devastating data breach
US energy firm BHI Energy has shared details about an Akira ransomware gang attack that breached its network in May this year.
The gang used a third-party contractor’s account to reach BHI’s internal network through a VPN connection. In the weeks that followed the breach, 767K files, containing 690 GB of data were stolen. These included BHI’s Windows Active Directory database.
Sensitive DNA information released by hackers
It has been reported that sensitive information stolen from 23andMe in a recent hacker attack includes 4 million DNA profiles. Reports allege this data includes ‘Royal Family’ member profiles.
The politically motivated hacker published these profiles in a cybercrime marketplace, citing political reasons as the motive for the attack.
Microsoft announces commitment to boosting Australian cybersecurity
Microsoft has announced it will collaborate with the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) to boost protection from cyber attacks.
As part of this commitment, it will invest $5bn in helping Australia expand its hyperscale cloud computing capacity.
