Android Malware Posing as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Snapchat
The SonicWall Capture Labs team reported on threat actors developing malicious, fake Android apps to impersonate Google, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, and X.
When downloaded by victims and once permissions have been granted to use them, illegitimate apps aim to steal sensitive data from Android devices, such as contacts, text messages, call logs, and passwords.
Deepfakes are a Concern for 72% of Consumers
Jumio revealed in a report that a majority of consumers (72%) have concerns each day that they may be scammed out of money or sensitive information by a deepfake.
The report also found that more than 70% of respondents are willing to spend more time verifying identification if it would improve security.
