Ukrainian Hacking Group Dismantles Russian Telco – January 11th

Chinese Group Launches Cyber Spy Campaign on US Research Firm

According to a Volexity blog post, a Chinese threat actor group infiltrated an undisclosed US research firm through Ivanti VPN vulnerabilities, gaining access to geopolitical information.

Not the first cyber espionage campaign under China’s belt, this cyber attack adds fuel to China and the US’s geopolitical tensions. The FBI Director Christopher Wray further stated that China’s hacking teams outnumber the FBI’s cyber agents 50 to 1.

US Homeland Security Seeks Synthetic AI Training Data

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the government agency’s call for ideas and solutions to synthetic AI and Machine Learning training models.

The DHS is to award up to $1.7M for the accepted submissions to develop the technology needed for the agency’s use. The DHS request aims to train the agency’s cybersecurity professionals in using ‘live’ data for a more effective cyber threat response.

Ukrainian Hacking Group Dismantles Russian Telco

A source informed Reuters that the Ukrainian spy agency-backed “Blackjack” hacking group successfully deleted 20TB of data from M9 Telecom, massively disrupting their operations.

Seemingly coming as a retaliation attack to the “largest telco cyber attack in history” on Ukrainian telco, Kyivstar, the attack on M9 Telecom shut down internet use for thousands in Moscow.
