HTX falls victim to crypto thieves – September 27th

Fake Bitwarden site used as a platform for new RAT malware

The RAT (remote access trojan) variant of malware is continuing to evolve, with a new strain ZenRAT targeting Windows users having been identified.

The new variant has information-stealing capabilities and is hosted on fake websites, faking association with Bitwarden.

LockBit 3.0 hailed ‘most active’ ransomware group in August

Figures given by the NCC Group have identified LockBit 3.0 as having carried out the most ransomware attacks during the month of August.

During this month, 125 of 390 ransomware attacks recorded were carried out by LockBit 3.0 hackers. 

HTX falls victim to crypto thieves

Cryptocurrency is being increasingly targeted by hackers, with $7.9 million recently stolen in a hack targeting cryptocurrency exchange HTX. The hack attack was identified as soon as it occurred, with HTX authorities stepping up promptly in an innovative way to recover losses. 

Following the attack, HTX offered a ‘white hat’ ethical hacker a 5% bonus to return the stolen cryptocurrency, amounting to a total bonus of $400,000.
