GhostSec exposes Iran’s surveillance of its citizens – August 28th

Hackers hold Prospect Medical’s data ‘hostage’

Hacker group Rhysida has been identified as the mastermind behind the recent ransomware attack on Prospect Medical Holdings, where 500,000 social security numbers, patient records, and corporate documents were stolen. The group identified themselves in ransom notes on employee screens after the August 3 attack. 

GhostSec exposes Iran’s surveillance of its citizens

On Sunday, notorious hacking group GhostSec made an announcement on their official Telegram channel detailing a breach they executed on the Iranian government’s Behnama software, which they describe as the “Iran regime’s very own Privacy-invading software.” According to a blog by threat intelligence firm Cyberint, the Telegram announcement detailed the software’s capabilities, including facial recognition-based video surveillance, a car license plate recognition system, and a facial recognition system for ID card printing.

Nuh, Haryana has been identified as a hub of organized cybercrime activity, impacting people and organizations across India. In response to a growing threat of cybercrime, a cyber police station was established in Nuh two years ago; however, reports say that cyber fraud continues to emanate from the area. Furthermore, investigations have also shown that cybercriminals are undergoing training in the Jurehera and Ghamdi villages in Rajasthan.
